December Bark About to the Gorge

Sunday, December 10, 2017 - 9:00am to 5:00pm

The Eagle Creek fire in the Columbia Gorge ignited many people's awareness about living with fire in our ecosystem. After decades of heavy suppression strategies, populated areas have grown distanced from this natural and necessary occurrence. On this month's Bark About, we'll travel to the Cascade Locks area to make a few walking stops and see the impact of the fire on the forest and on the surrounding communities. We'll be meeting and ending the day at the Thunder Island Brewery with an option of concluding the day with food from their outstanding menu.

Carpools leave from the Hollywood Trader Joe’s, 4121 NE Halsey, (across the street from the Hollywood Transit Center, near the I-84 exit 2) in Portland at 9am sharp. If you are able to drive, we greatly appreciate your contribution to helping make a successful hike. If you are looking for a ride, please come prepared to reimburse your driver. There is an additional $9 cost per vehicle for bridge fare and trailhead parking for this hike, so please bring a few extra dollars to help with this fee.

If you would like to join us in Cascade Locks, we'll be meeting at Thunder Island Brewery (515 SW Portage Rd, Cascade Locks) at 10am.

Bring a lunch, water, and anything else you'll need to stay comfortable in the forest. To protect off-trail resources, we ask you to leave your dog at home.

Call Bark at 503-331-0374 for more details and information.

If you are willing to drive in our carpool, please review Bark's Driver Safety Expectations before coming.
