The comment period for scoping ended on October 21st, 2009.
The Mt. Hood National Forest has prepared an Environmental Assessment for its ZigZag Roads Decommissioning project. 42 miles of roads are being proposed for decommissioning. Of these roads, 12 miles woul not be decommissioned for for another 5-10 years pending vegetation management.
The ZigZag District is known and loved for providing access to many spectacular hiking trails and campgrounds. It also contains a major network of unneeded roads that have not been maintained, causing damage to ecosystems.
Let the Forest Service know if this project may impact your ability to access your favorite quiet recreation sites or if you have identified additional roads that should be decommissioned.
