Driving Directions to Grasshopper

The following are driving directions from Portland to the SE corner of Grasshopper at the intersection of Forest roads 4810 and 4811.

 

Driving via Government Camp and FR 48

Forest Road 48 is not plowed in the winter and this route is not accesible from late fall through early spring.

1. Head East on Hwy 26.

2. After approximately 2.4 mi past Government camp, make a slight right onto Hwy 35 North toward Hood River.

  • When you pass Trillium lake (on the right), you are getting close.
  • If you pass the Chevron Gas Station, you've gone too far.

3. In 4.4 mi, turn right (south) onto Forest Road 48.

  • This turn is just past the White River.
  • If you get to the exit for Bennett Pass and Mt. Hood Meadows, you've gone too far.
  • As of April 2021, there is a detour on this road due to a closure from the White River Fire.  Check Mt. Hood Alerts for more info.

4. In 24 mi, turn left onto Rock Creek Rd.

5. In 0.2 mi, turn right onto 4810.

6. In 1.9 mi, you will reach the intersection of the 4810 and 4811.  This is a good spot to travel to a lot of units from!  Enjoy!

 

Driving via Dufur and US-197 

This drive takes approximately 2 hours.  It is a good option for avoiding snow during mild winter weather and shoulder seasons.

1. Head east on I-84.

2. Take exit 87 toward Dufur/Bend.

3. At the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto US 197S.

4. In 0.2mi mi, turn left onto US-197 towards Dufur and Bend.

5. In 28.1 mi, turn right onto Tygh Valley Rd.

6. In 0.4 mi, continue onto Wamic Market Rd.

7. In 10.9 mi, turn right onto Rock Creek Rd (towards Rock Creek Resevoir).

8. In 0.2 mi, turn right onto Forest Road 4810 (aka Wamic Mill Rd).

9. In 1.9 mi, you will reach the intersection of 4810 and 4811.
