April Bark About: Lichen Hike

Sunday, April 9, 2017 - 9:00am to 5:00pm

HypogymiaFor our April Bark-About, we will explore the unbelievable world of lichens! Lichens do everything from "fixing" atmospheric nitrogen to providing key nesting materials for birds.  Are lichens organisms or ecosystems? Are they fungal greenhouses or algal farmsteads?  Find out for yourself this month with hike leaders Maysa and Scottie, who will guide us through an enchanting part of the forest. Please consider bringing collection bags/scrap paper, a writing utensil, and a hand lens (if you have one).

Carpools leave from the Hollywood Trader Joe’s, 4121 NE Halsey, (across the street from the Hollywood Transit Center, near the I-84 exit 2) in Portland at 9am sharp. If you are able to drive, we greatly appreciate your contribution to helping make a successful hike. If you are looking for a ride, please come prepared to reimburse your driver.  If you would like to arrange a meet-up closer to the forest, please let us know by giving us a call at our number below.

Bring a lunch, water, and anything else you'll need to stay comfortable in the forest. To protect off-trail resources, we ask you to leave your dog at home.

Call Bark at 503-331-0374 for more details and information.

If you are willing to drive in our carpool, please review Bark's Driver Safety Expectations before coming.
