March Bark About: Groundtruthing as a Sense of Place

Date:
Sunday, March 8, 2020 - 8:30am to 6:00pm

Join Gradey for Bark’s free monthly hike as we explore timber sales of today and yesterday. Groundtruthing is Bark’s method of gathering site specific information about an area proposed for logging or development, which we use to to fight destructive proposals. For those of us on the ground, groundtruthing means visiting a threatened place time and time again. It means learning so how things really work in an ecosystem. It means falling in love with place. It means finding a way to give back. Sometimes you win the battle to save a forest and other times your heart is broken, but always you will find ways to connect to these unique places. This is building relationship, developing a sense of place. These are some of the topics Gradey will explore on this hike after nearly 20 years of doing this work.

Carpools leave from the Hollywood Grocery Outlet (located a few blocks from the Hollywood Transit Center, at the I-84 exit 2) at 9 am sharp. If you are able to drive, we greatly appreciate your contribution to helping make a successful hike. If you are looking for a ride, please come prepared to reimburse your driver. Bring a lunch, water, and anything else you'll need to stay comfortable in the forest. To protect off-trail resources, we ask you to leave your dog at home.

If you plan to drive and can offer seats to carpool, please review Bark's Expectations for All Drivers.
