A working field trip to the Jazz Timber Sale

Sunday, April 27, 2014 - 9:00am to 5:00pm

Visit Unit 18 of the Jazz Timber Sale to see on the ground what is at stake with this 2,000-acre logging project, and to explore why logging is NOT restoration. We will walk the site of a 40-year-old road that has since recovered into a beautiful area of forest, yet the Forest Service asserts will be better off if it rebuilds the road to allow for logging, and then actively decommissions it afterward.

Despite our recent lost lawsuit to stop the Jazz Timber Sale, we are determined to keep fighting. On this field trip you can help us gather important information about one crucial piece of the forest known as Jazz. We will take measurements on a variety of qualities such as soil compaction and canopy closure. If Jazz is logged, we will need this information to help us expose the true impacts of logging and road construction in our National Forests.

Bring lunch, water, rain gear and sturdy shoes. We will be walking off trail.

Carpools will meet at the Hollywood Trader Joe's, 4121 NE Halsey in Portland at 9am sharp. It is across the street from the Hollywood Transit Center, near the I-84 exit 2. If you are able to drive, we greatly appreciate your contribution to helping make a successful outing. If you are looking for a ride, please come prepared to reimburse your driver. If you would like to try to arrange a meet up closer to the forest, please contact the Bark office the week before the hike. To protect off-trail resources, we ask that you leave your dog at home.
