Groundtruthing

Base Camp Happening Now!

Join us in the forest for Base Camp August 20th – September 2nd!

Groundtruthing Isn't Easy

I've measured tree after tree, mapped streams and wetlands, tracked signs of wildlife, and climbed up and down steep ravines to see with my own eyes the full breadth of what will be lost if a sale goes through. I now know what "forest health" proposals really mean in 2018. And I can tell you it's quite different than what my former self and most other people imagine.

Groundtruthing 201: Fun in the Forest

This will be the field session and part two of our July Groundtruthing training.

Groundtruthing 101: Fun with Maps

Groundtruthing involves documenting threats to public forests and finding inconsistencies between what the Forest Service says and what is actually occurring on the ground.

Winter 2017 Volunteer Orientation

Bark's mission includes actively growing the forest advocacy movement by giving people like you the tools and training they need to be effective forest defenders.

Forest Dream Team

I am starting this year with a strong feeling that we as a community have the tools we need to tackle the challenges the coming year brings.

Base Camp volunteers protect and restore the Upper Clackamas

We’re now halfway done field-checking the project, and boots-on-the-ground in all the remaining units will help us make a strong case for protecting the most ecologically sensitive areas of the beautiful Upper Clackamas watershed.

10 days 'til Base Camp!

Summer Base Camp: Session 2

Join Bark's groundtruthing and training camp-out along the Clackamas River, near Bagby Hot Springs. Learn how to field check a timber sale, and many other skills as we camp, work, and explore together in the forest.

Mark your calendars: Film Screenings, Trainings, Hikes and Events

I love being out in the forest no matter the season, but winter is a great time to learn about Mt. Hood's forests in the warm, dry Bark office!
